Three beat up, stab barangay tanod

Angered for being admonished to stop making noises while drinking and for being told to go home instead, three men beat up and stabbed a tanod in sitio Laguna, barangay Basak-Pardo yesterday dawn.

The 50-year-old victim, Jaime Ahig, suffered bruises and contusions, and some stab wounds in his left arm. He was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center.

The three suspects, in their early 20s, were Walter Librando, Anthony Remington and Dennis Payaton. They were reportedly noisy while having a drinking spree, prompting some residents to call barangay authorities for assistance.

Ahig responded to the so-called noise alarm and approached the three drinking men to advise them to go home because of complaints from residents about their noises. The place, besides, had been the scene of several untoward incidents in the past, he told them.

The three men, instead of heeding his advise, reportedly attacked and mauled Ahig. One of them even stabbed him once in his arm before they left the scene.

Meanwhile, a construction worker stabbed his fellow worker while they were having a drinking spree in the construction site of a building at General Maxilom Avenue Tuesday night.

The victim was Mathy Bitonga, 23, of Kanlaon, Negros Oriental, while his alleged attacker was his townmate Sipon Barbon, 20. The two were drinking with a third construction worker when Barbon stabbed Bitonga.

Bitonga was immediately taken to the CCMC. He told homicide investigators that Barbon held a grudge against him. — Flor Z. Perolina/RAE
