KPB to educate voters with Election Plug 2007

The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Cebu chapter launched yesterday the KBP Election Plug 2007 that aims to educate the voters on the significance of choosing the right leaders for the country's future.

"The plug is aimed to educate and guide our electorate in choosing candidates for the upcoming May 14 elections," KBP-Cebu president Edward Abad said.

Abad also said that the KBP Board has agreed to air the 30 seconds election plug at least, but not limited to, four times everyday, starting today until May 14.

In yesterday's Bee Forum, Abad said that 80 percent of voters do not know what constitute the ideal qualifications to become good leaders. The plug raises awareness against vote-buying and leadership values and agenda.

KBP-Cebu has a membership of 11 AM radio stations, 20 FM stations and five TV stations. There are only two AM radio stations and one TV station that are non-members.

Abad said it is the first time the KBP-Cebu has embarked on such a project and that it is their way of contributing to the voters' education campaign recognizing the power of the broadcast industry to reach millions of people nationwide.

As the KBP regional coordinator in Central Visayas, Abad said such an initiative will also be encouraged in other provincial KBP chapters as it is part of the media's social responsibility and public duty to raise political consciousness.

The KBP official also said they are planning to come up with a local candidates' forum to give the electorates an opportunity to find out the agenda of specific candidates and in the process, determine who the best possible qualified candidates are. - Gregg M. Rubio/MEEV
