Citom reluctant in donating seized trisikads to Mabolo

The City Traffic Operations Management Board is hesitant to grant the request of Mabolo barangay captain Trinidad Borces who asked to have some of the confiscated pedal-operated tricycles or "trisikads" donated to their barangay to serve as their service vehicles.

This is because aside from the strict ban of trisikads off busy streets of Cebu City, these vehicles kept at the Citom impounding area still need forfeiture proceedings.

Hundreds of trisikads are impounded at Block 27 in North Reclamation Area after these were apprehended by the Task Force on Trisikad of the Citom. These were being used in transporting passengers to different points in the city.

Owners of trisikads need to pay P1,000 fine for violating the existing city ordinance before they are allowed to redeem their units, but several of these operators failed to claim back their trisikads.

Despite the implementation of the ordinance that prohibits operations of trisikads in busy city streets, these vehicles continue to ply on busy streets like Leon Kilat, C. Padilla, Katipunan, Salvador, and F. Llamas in Labangon, among others. - Rene U. Borromeo/MEEV
