9 hurt in Colon PUJ accident

Nine people were brought to the hospital after a passenger jeepney they were riding on turned turtle after being hit by another passenger jeepney at the corner of Colon and Borromeo streets yesterday morning. Both vehicles were plying Bulacao-Colon routes.

PO3 Porferio Lim Jr. of the Traffic Group said one of the vehicles was a 10M jeepney with plate number GVJ-417 driven by Arnel Sumating while the other was a 10H jeepney driven by Dominador Enad with plate number GXB-825.

Lim said the 10M jeepney was from Bulacao and just reached the Colon-Borromeo intersection when the much bigger 10H jeepney driven by Enad hit its right side.

The force of the impact rolled the 10M jeepney until it stopped upside-down, injuring nine passengers.

Lim identified those rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center injured as Irene Agono, 27, of Inayagan, Naga; Roldan Herbias, 18, of Tulay,Minglanilla; Ricardo Arcepe, 60, of Bulacao Pardo; Mercedita Fe Espinar, 44, of Camella Homes, Talisay City; Hermie Piguis, 29, of Poblacion, Talisay; Vicenta Panuncia,49, of Jaclopan,Talisay City; relatives Reynaldo Teleron,29, and Luzviminda Teleron,32, all residents of Echavez Street in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel and Arnel Lasida, 20, of Abuno, Minglanilla.

Lim said Enad accused Sumating of not following the traffic signal, allegedly speeding up even when the stoplight was on.

Lim said he will be calling both drivers today for a clarification of the incident. - Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
