The police arrested the man the other day and was indicted at the City Prosecutor's Office for violation of the law on Violence against Women and Children, after his wife complained to the police about the battery.
SPO1Vicente Espinido told The Freeman that the wife alleged that her husband was already drunk that night when he slapped and punched her for her refusal to give in to his demand for sex.
Espinido said the complaint stated that the beating happened in front of their neighbors causing much humiliation to her.
"Gisukmag unya gitamparos lagi daw ni siya atubangan sa publiko kay hubog man ning bana, nanelos man siguro ni siya ba kay murag gusto man siyang 'mogamit' pero di man mopagamit ang babaye," Espinido said.
Police reports stated that the man failed to remit his earnings to his wife who, as a result, refused her husband's initial request for sex.
This prompted the man to go on a drinking binge and, when drunk already, confronted his wife again and demanded for sex.
She still refused him causing him to get furious and beat her up in front of their neighbors who, in turn, called the police for assistance.
Fuente station policemen responded and took the man into their custody for further investigation and filing of charges.
Espinido said the couple met in Japan more than ten years ago, while both were working there, and eventually got married in that country. - Edwin Ian Melecio
