Man arrested for raping stepdaughter in Medellin

A 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter Wednesday afternoon in Medellin town.

The arrest of Jose Inot by SPO1 Orlando Batusin and PO2 Archimedes Villapez of the Medellin Police Station came Thursday afternoon after the victim, together with her mother and teacher, reported the incident to the police.

Initial police investigation revealed that the victim and her mother sought assistance from Amelita Pelyano, the victim's teacher, on Wednesday afternoon over the incident.

Batusin yesterday told The FREEMAN that they have learned that the victim was raped by the suspect several times since last year when they were still living in Mindanao. The last incident, Batusin said, happened on Wednesday.

"Na rape ni siya pero kadaghan na man diay ni buhata sa iyang ama-ama since last year sa Mindanao, ato lang Wednesday nausban," Batusin said.

The police said the victim told her mother Thursday afternoon that she was raped by the suspect around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday when he asked her to go with him to pick some breadfruit.

While at the police station, the victim's mother also told investigators that the suspect mauled her and threatened to kill them last Sunday.

Batusin said they would file charges against the suspect who is now detained at the municipal jail, awaiting the result of the medical examination conducted on the victim yesterday afternoon.

The victim is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. - Norvie S. Misa/LPM
