Catabas stays despite failure to solve killing after 72 hours

Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano is retaining his chief of police despite having failed to solve last week's brazen killing of a bank manager within the 72-hour period Ouano himself had given him.

Although, the Mandaue City police has yet to file charges against those responsible for the killing of Narciso Damole, Allied Bank A.C. Cortes branch manager, Ouano said he is satisfied with the investigation report of S/Supt. Eduardo Catabas Jr.

Ouano said Catabas told him that they have already identified the assailants and now have some witnesses to help them build a case.

"Okay lang kay nagpakita man sila nga naglihok sila aron pagsulbad sa kaso," Ouano said in an interview over dyLA.

Ouano earlier gave Catabas 72 hours to solve the case, threatening to relieve him from his post, this was after they found out that no policemen were assigned to the area where Damole was robbed and killed last week.

Damole was trying to change the flat tire of his car at the North Reclamation Area when an unidentified man divested him of his personal belongings and shot him dead.

The incident took place just a few hundred meters away from the site of the Cebu International Convention Center where the 12th ASEAN Summit will be held in December.

Ouano said that the 200 policemen sent to Mandaue as augmentation force for the ASEAN summit should have been assigned in strategic locations particularly in the area where the CICC is located.

When Damole was robbed and killed last week no policeman was there to respond to the incident, which could have led to the arrest of the robbers if not the prevention of the crime - Ramil V. Ayuman and Fred P. Languido/BRP
