Student slain, 2 others wounded in shooting

A graduating computer science student was killed while his two companions were wounded during a shooting incident, which many believed was caused by fraternity rivalry, along J. Tabura Street in sitio Poblacion, barangay Pardo yesterday dawn.

The fatality was identified as 27-year-old Lesley del Mundo Reroma, a resident of Las Villas of the same barangay. Those wounded were identified as nursing student Ruel Enos Guinita, 22, reportedly a member of Alpha Kappa Rho, and Stephen Binondo Mabunay, 30, of sitio Tabucanal.

Police could not yet confirm the earlier reports that Mabunay and Reroma are also members of Akhro.

Investigation conducted by the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office said the three were on their way home after drinking at the house of a certain Redentor Rojo when one of the two approaching men opened fire at them with an undetermined caliber of firearm.

Reroma was hit in the chest, back and the stomach while Guinita was hit in the chest and left side of his body. Mabunay was only hit in the left foot.

Guinita and Mabunay were rushed to Cebu City Medical Center while Reroma was brought to Chong Hua Hospital where he died few minutes later.

PO2 Joel Lacson, PO2 Jonathan dela Cerna and PO1 Leopoldo Bullido, who responded to the incident, failed to arrest the suspects but recovered only four empty shells of .45-caliber pistol.

Investigators have yet to identify the suspects and the motive in the shooting, but did not set aside the possibility that the incident was caused by fraternity conflict. - Edwin Ian Melecio/LPM
