2nd nat'l ICT Congress in Cebu City Sept. 6-7

Between 800 and 900 participants are expected to attend the Second National Information and Communications Technology in Basis Education Congress to be held at Waterfront Hotel-Cebu City from September 6 to 7.

The Department of Education -together with the Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development, and the Commission on Information and Communications Technology- will hold this second congress since 2004.

The congress, with the theme: "Innovating with Technology: The Challenge to Education Policy, Leadership and Management" will be a gathering of DepEd division and regional officials, principals or administrators of private and public schools, and representatives of the private sector and non-profit organizations in the field of ICTs.

The previous congress two years back, dealt on issues and challenges in teaching and learning technologies.

This time, the congress will delve deeper into issues confronting school administrators, education managers, leaders and policy-makers in introducing, initiating and sustaining ICT-based innovations in schools and classrooms.

The plenary sessions are set to tackle issues on innovation and 21st century skills, education policies, sustainability and partnerships, monitoring and evaluation, as well as presentations of the national ICT roadmap and the national ICTs in basic education plan.

Speakers for the congress will be representatives from Education Australia; United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)-Bangkok; Education Development Center; and the South East Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO)-Innotech, among others. - Jasmin R.
