2 cops ganged up for trying to pacify row

Two members of the maritime police suffered bruises and contusions after being ganged up by residents of sitio Back Japer in barangay Quiot when they tried to pacify a quarrel involving several neighbors Sunday night.

PO1 Herbert Dapitanon and PO1 Sedric Macalisag were trying to intervene in a row between a group of people and brothers Fely and Sergio Alcos when they were attacked.

After hearing about the quarrel, Macalisag, a resident of the area, told the Pardo police that he and Dapitanon, who happened to visit him, went out of his house to check it.

But as they tried to pacify the two groups, father and son Francis and Jonathan Pajares allegedly pounced on them for their intervention. The older Pajares allegedly grabbed Macalisag's shoulder and twisted it while Jonathan reportedly hit Dapitanon's head with a blunt object.

Because of the assault, the two policemen eventually used force to subdue the suspects and bring them to the Pardo Police Station where they spent the night in jail.

PO2 Edmon Tiempo of the Pardo Police Station told The Freeman that the suspects were freed yesterday morning after both parties agreed to settle the problem amicably. - Edwin Ian Melecio/LPM
