Man charged for illegal detention

A 28-year-old resident of barangay Guadalupe has been charged with slight illegal detention before the court yesterday for entering a house in sitio Nasipit, Talamban and detaining its owner inside the bathroom for two hours.

Assistant city prosecutor Patrick Osorio said there is probable cause to hold Raymar Trasporte of Andres Abellana Street for trial despite his denial of the charges filed against him by Daya Grossman.

Grossman, the wife of a foreigner, was awakened when the suspect forcibly entered her house by breaking a glass window around 3 a.m. on May 8.

When Grossman went out of her room to verify the noise, she found out that the suspect was already standing outside her bedroom. The suspect, armed with a knife, quickly held her right arm and dragged her downstairs.

Grossman's cry for help awakened her house helpers who tried to rescue her. But they could not do anything because the suspect threatened to kill their employer.

Trasporte demanded the key of Grossman's car and ordered the victim to drive the vehicle, but she explained that she did not know how to drive.

Grossman then ordered her helpers to ask for assistance from the subdivision's guard, prompting Trasporte to bring her back to the house and padlock her inside the bathroom.

But Trasporte was arrested when police later responded to the incident.

Osorio rejected the suspect's denial, saying that his arguments are evidentiary in nature, which would be best appreciated by the proper court during trial. - Rene U. Borromeo
