Talisay workers hope to receive allowance

Talisay City employees continue to hope for the release of their allowance, attending council sessions immediately after March 22 when Mayor Socrates Fernandez approved a resolution granting P1,000 for each worker.

But many council sessions have passed and workers have yet to hear the council pass a supplemental budget that would include their allowance. Union's Secretary Joy Sanchez, in an interview with The FREEMAN, said Fernandez had already said there is a budget for the allowance.

However, Vice Mayor Aberdovey Belleza, whom Sanchez and the rest of the union's officers asked for assistance, told them there was no order from the mayor for the council to pass a supplemental budget. "Way gahum ang sangguniang nga mohimo og maong aksyon," Belleza said. He instead advised them to go to the mayor, as he is the only person who can answer their problem.

"Na, napul-an na lang mi sa iyang sige og saad," Sanchez said.

The Council, on March 16, passed a resolution asking Fernandez to allocate funds for the increase of ADCOM allowance from P500 to P1500, which is in pursuant to Administrative Order no. 144 signed by President Arroyo, and in view of the Department of Budget and Management's Circular no. 2006-2, which is implementing it. - Liv G.
