Police face blank wall in cop's slay

Two days after the killing of SPO2 Teofanes Castro, the Talisay City police is still facing a blank wall in their investigation into the case.

Castro's body was brought to the National Bureau of Investigation for autopsy to determine whether the bullet that killed him was from his own service firearm.

Castro, a traffic policeman assigned at the Talisay City Traffic Division, was shot in the head Thursday night while purportedly having a date with a woman along the Talisay City side of the Cebu South Coastal Road near sitio Laray, barangay San Roque.

Police were looking into the possibility that Castro's killing stemmed from a love triangle since he was seen with a woman in the area prior to the incident. His wife is working abroad.

Acting Talisay City police chief Audie Villacin said they still had no idea if the gunman used Castro's .9mm service firearm in the killing since the result of the autopsy was not released as of yesterday afternoon.

However, Villacin said they have heightened up their investigation following reports that the victim's family does not trust the police to handle the case.

Catro's eldest daughter was quoted as saying that she'd rather have the NBI investigate her father's murder as she lost confidence with his colleagues whom she alleged were very late in responding to the incident.

Castro's body was discovered without his wallet, cell phone and service firearm, which may have been taken by the suspect, according to police. - Liv G. Campo
