The lifeless body of Francisco Ampatin, 36, jobless, and a resident of the said place, was found by his 23-year-old live-in partner, hanging from a rope tied to a beam in their house, yesterday dawn.
PO3 William Homoc of the Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City police said that the couple recently had a petty quarrel over the text messages which the woman received prior to the incident.
Homoc believes the fatality did not trust his live-in partner because the latter, a native of Bacolod City, was a former guest relations officer at a bar.
He said that before the suicide, Ampatin was also drunk and took some illegal drugs before he went home last Saturday night. Another quarrel ensued between the couple when the woman continued to receive text messages.
Homoc also said that inside the couple's room, they were able to recover an unlicensed .45 cal. pistol with one magazine containing four live bulles, some drug paraphernalia and a yellow rope which the victim used to hang himself.
This is the second incident this week wherein a couple got into trouble because of jealousy over text messages.
Last Thursday dawn, a woman ended up in critical condition after she was shot by her live-in partner.
Jonathan Camacho, 23, of barangay Poblacion III, Carcar town, arrived drunk at his house and checked the cellphone of his live-in partner Jocelyn Yamyamin, 20.
He was enraged to find a text message from a man and confronted her about it.
The resulting argument turned violent and he got a gun and shot her in the face then fled.
Yamyamin was first brought to the Carcar District Hospital then later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where she is still in critical condition. - Flor Z. Perolina
