NPA burns cellsite

Eight alleged members of the New People's Army burned down a cell site owned by Globe Telecom in Binat-i Hills inTagbilaran City last Sunday evening.

A report reaching the Police Regional Office-7 claimed eight men clad in police uniform on board a brown van with no plate number arrived at the cellsite at around 7 p.m. last Sunday and disarmed the lone security guard who was tasked to watch over the cellsite.

It was presumed that the men originally wanted to bring down the tower with a blow torch but couldn't find one at the site. They settled then for what was available - diesel gasoline.

Before leaving, the men told the guards they were members of the underground movement.

The fire destroyed the site's radio room, three generators, and a portable antenna. The tower was spared.
