'Rapist' freed after vowing to marry accuser

A man who raped his former live-in partner last Monday was released from the detention cell of the Boljoon Police station yesterday after he promised the woman he would marry her for the sake of their two children.

The Boljoon police immediately arrested Anastacio Culagbang, 35, single, a resident of barangay Lunop, Boljoon town after a certain Alma (family name withheld), 30, also a resident of the place, told police that her former live-in partner raped her last Monday.

Culagbang who did not expect that Alma would have him arrested, spent a night at the detention cell but later on implored that Alma withdraw the case for the sake of their two children.

Inspector Efren delos Reyes, the chief of the Boljoon police, yesterday said Culagbang was released after promising to marry Alma "for the sake of their two children." Delos Santos said that the former live-in partners parted ways three years ago after Culagbang's mother showed dislike towards Alma.

Delos Santos said the couple would be getting married today at the office of Boljoon Mayor Deogenes Derama.
