Transfer of Talisay school head sought

Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez yesterday asked the City Schools Division superintendent the transfer to another assignment of the principal of an elementary school to appease parents who accuse her of arrogance, disrespect to parents, lying, and unprofessionalism.

Around 600 pupils from all grade levels of the San Isidro Elementary School did not report to their classes the other day as their parents staged a protest rally demanding school principal Velma Taboada's ouster.

"If that is the solution, it would be better nga i-transfer siya somewhere," Fernandez said, adding that her continuing stay at the school might fuel conflict between parents and some teachers.

Earlier, around 200 parents lodged a complaint against Taboada at the office of city legal officer Aurora Econg, and submitted a petition to have the principal replaced.

The FREEMAN yesterday observed that only a few students attended their classes. The others would reportedly only go back to school if the principal was replaced.

Department of Education regional director Carolino Mordeno said that his office has already acted upon the matter and has directed division superintendent Elsa Suralta to form a committee that would investigate the matter.

In yesterday's meeting with Suralta, the parents agreed to allow their students to attend classes while the investigation is going on.
