PO3 Henry Lobitania of Daanbantayan police said that the suspect, Marti Gulfan, 19, asked his elder bgrother Marino Gulfan, 25, to gather for firewood while he was preparing chicken for their supper.
But instead of going out to look for firewood, Marino instead got mad and shouted at Marti not to bother cooking anymore. He said he just came from watching television at a neighbor's house and he was too tired to go out and gather firewood.
An argument ensued between the two and it later became physical. Marino began looking for a bolo as he wanted to hack the suspect.
Seeing none, he then took a kerosene lamp and threw it at Marti, not contended he also struck him once with a piece of wood. Their other brother 18-year-old Stewart tried to pacify them but instead Marino punched him instead.
Seeing this, Marti grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Marino in the neck before grabbing Stewart and fleeing to the house of their neighbor Bernie Cesar.
Cesar, who saw the suspect still bringing a knife, immediately went to check on Marino. He saw the victim was having difficulty breathing and bleeding badly then ran to get help from other neighbors.
Marino died an hour after he was brought to the hospital, it was later found out that the knife cut the artery in his neck and caused massive bleeding.
The suspect was immediately picked-up by the police after the victim was declared dead. He is now detained at the Daanbantayan police station.
If his family will not file parricide against the police said they will.
Meanwhile, a tricycle driver was stabbed and wounded allegedly by his younger brother after a heated argument over family problems in barangay Kalawisan, Lapu-Lapu City, last Tuesday evening.
Jesus Berdon, 36, sustained stab wounds in the abdomen and is presently confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Homicide investigator PO3 Manolito Abellanosa said the victim and his brother Vicente Berdon Jr. were having an argument over family problems.
Vicente, unable to control his anger, took and knife and stabbed his brother. Carlos, a younger brother of the two told police investigators that he noticed the two arguing, when he tried to pacify both of them, his younger brother attacked Jesus.
