City administrator Aurora Econg said the mayor has instructed her and city budget officer Edgar Mabunay to prepare the release of the assistance to city hall employees, each of whom will receive P1,000.
The city has more than 700 regular employees.
But the release of the amount will have to be approved by the city council. Department of Budget Secretary Emilia Boncodin said local government units should make sure that the educational assistance to employees is approved through an ordinance.
Boncodin said the granting of such assistance is in compliance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's promise increasing financial assistance to all government workers.
Last Thursday, Councilor Alan Bucao sponsored a resolution authorizing the city government to grant the educational assistance to its workers. But the majority of council members referred the resolution to the committee on budget and finance.
