CEBU, Philippines - After a three-year hiatus, the Carrera Habagat adventure race series will once again reel in the nation's most active adventure and thrill seekers and racers, given the series' reputation for being the toughest non-stop adventure racing event in the country.
Slated to happen this November 21 to 25, Carrera Habagat 2012 will cover an active race distance announced to be around 300 to 500 kilometers, covering Toledo, Talisay, Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-lapu.
With the last Carrera Habagat taking place in Camotes Island in 2008, this year's Carrera Habagat bears a more "local flavor", to the tune of Habagat's 25th anniversary in offering only the best of quality outdoor wear, gear and equipment.
"Given Habagat's Cebuano roots, we saw no reason why we could not hold the event here in Cebu," shared event director Randy Su, during the Carrera Habagat 2012 official launch held last August 24.
"This year, we are expecting a diverse range of participants based on the active growth in numbers of triathletes, runners and bikers, and we are confident that Carerra Habagat's multi-disciplinary aspect as an adventure race will truly test their stamina, skills and capabilities," Su further shared.
The Carrera Habagat adventure race series has long ascribed to a multi-disciplinary standard in its orientation, not only testing the skill levels of its participants but also testing their endurance through its non-stop multi-day course duration.
Involving biking, kayaking, trekking and more, the adventure race series' rigorous physical demands also includes intuitive navigation and course setting skills in the part of its team participants, with each participating team required to have a competent navigator as team member.
Active outdoors and racing personalities like Leo Oracion and Pastor Emata are noted to take part in the upcoming Carrera Habagat 2012, along with teams hailing from Davao, Danao, Iligan and Surigao.
With the first Carrera Habagat happening sometime in 2000, the adventure race series has been noted to be the most challenging race of its class in the country, even going as far as being dubbed as a "training ground" where athletes get to test just how tough their mettles really are.
Standing as the culminating activity in Habagat's 25th anniversary celebrations, Carrera Habagat 2012 once again comes to challenge those who are drawn to its call.
Parties interested in taking part in Carrera Habagat 2012 may visit Habagat in SM City Cebu for more details and information. A Carrera Habagat 2012 team is set to be composed of 6 team members - 4 racers (with one member of the opposite sex) and 2 support/logistics crew members - and will be required to undergo qualifying tests related to the skills and capabilities which will be involved during the actual race.
