CEBU, Philippines - “Glide quickly past the competition! Morning frost or glam night out, here’s all the twirl, whirl & winter-wonderful snowglobe shades needed to send boys and girls into a double-spin. What will the judges say?”
All heads turned when the sparkly plethora of wintery goodies that are the famous paint pots, eyeshadows, beauty powders, nail lacquers, and dazzleglasses of MAC were finally launched to the public in December. Rustan’s Cebu was overflowing with beauty enthusiasts and the MAC Cosmetics counters haven’t seen a crowd this huge.
It was probably the team up with ice diva Johnny Weir or the starkling resemblance of the MOD model who portrayed him in all his ice-skating glory but the exclusive opening of MAC Cosmetics in Cebu finally filled that existing gap in the market.
“It was really refreshing to see lots of Cebu-based beauty enthusiasts flock to MAC Cosmetics’ opening in Ayala Cebu,” says Manila Beauty blogger and entrepeneur Sophie Uy who flew in to Cebu just for the opening. “People were really excited, and the counters were overflowing with people roadtesting, and seeking consultations from the makeup artists. What I know is that Cebuanas would go to Manila or abroad to purchase their MAC products, and I’m glad that they don’t need to leave their home base to get their beauty loot.”
Among the others who graced the event were top celebrity makeup artist Jigs Mayuga, top model Kelly Misa, and MAC makeup artist Owen Sarmiento who gave a demo of the Glitter and Ice collection - a holiday treat from MAC.
qMAC Cosmetics Cebu is located at Rustan’s, Ayala Center.

Eat Like A Sumo! Cebu dining has yet to add Japanese-American cuisine as one of their favorites when entering the market is Japanese-American restaurant Sumo Sam. Its young founders, Raymund Magdaluyo and actor-turned-entrepreneur Marvin Agustin partnered with Cebuano entrepreneurs Shanna Lopez and Glecy Lopez-Go that gave the six-year-old restaurant the edge to expand outside Metro Manila.
Their first Visayas branch located at the Terraces was given the warmest reception from the media and friends who were invited to the restaurant’s official opening day. Their tiger prawns, sushi and their power mocktails were instant hits.
Located at the ground floor of the Ayala Terraces (beside TGIF), it is also the only branch that serves pizza, and the Shrimp Enoki pizza featured a very refreshingly distinct flavor.
Their branch at The Terraces is their first in the Visayas and the biggest in the country so far, with a seating capacity of 120. To date, Sumo Sam confirms that fusion of the Western and Asian Cuisines can work. Sumo Sam is open from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm, Monday to Sunday. For reservations and inquiries, please call 401-0643.
