CEBU, Philippines - An invitation to view the solo exhibit of renowned artist Celso Duazo Pepito, as usual, did not disappoint. Aptly titled, Homage 2, Mr. Pepito touchingly mentioned in his opening remarks that this exhibit was a way of giving back to the individuals and institutions who have helped him in one way or another, since he started his craft some thirty years ago.
They were also his guests of honor that evening, namely: Mr. Joebers Bersales, Mrs. Arnica Caguitla, Dr. Ronald Eullaran, Ms. Ethel Espinoza, Mr. Ramon Fernandez, Archt. Raycia Eullaran, Mr. Devin Go, Ms. Karla Fernandez, Mr. Jon Kenneth Gotiong, Ms. Janice Gotiong, Mr. Johnie Lim, Mrs. Annabelle Lim, Dr. Jorgen Lim, Ms. Flor Lim, Mr. Ramon Ong, Ms. Honey Loop, Dr. Marilou Ong, and Mrs. Marlinda Angbetic Tan.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests and art patrons viewed the cubist paintings, reminiscent of two other great artists who pioneered this art form — Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. A visual feast for the senses, we were treated to colored and black and white images of portraits, God, family, and love of country. These are the main themes that Mr. Pepito dabbles with in his paintings. In addition, he believes that art, if properly utilized, can be a catalyst for change and development in our society. These exhibits are organized to inspire viewers and patrons alike to do their part in nation building.
The exhibit runs until November 30, 2011 at the SM Art Center, SM City Cebu, North Reclamation Area.
