CEBU, Philippines - Here's another reason why I love summer: it gives us the license to go wild with pops and splashes of color when it comes to make-up! Well, at least it does for weekends but never, never on a regular workday. Tangerine eye shadow might just lower your respect-o-meter at work by 20 leagues.
Seriously though, when it comes to this season's makeup color trends, we're looking at a first class ride right into candy land with lip colors and eye shadows that scream Amusement Park wild.
And this is exactly where it become tricky because the line between bold and tacky-garish is about as thin as a hairline so a slight mishap can definitely turn heads the wrong way.
The last thing you would want to happen in this season is to draw restrained giggles from onlookers who might think that someone from Kaos or Cirque du Soleil just came traipsing at the Terraces straight from a show.
To keep us within the bounds of sane looking but stylish candy colored makeup, we draw inspiration from the delish fashion shots by Jeff Tse featuring model Wang Xiao in bright candy colors that are too sweet to simply pass off.
Notice that although the focus for the eyes is on hues along within the candy shop palette, the total feel and look isn't head-on bright and garish.
Rather, there's a sugar-dusted feel into it making it a little bit more subdued and sweet but still rather dreamy. Worthy to take note of are the icy blue eye shadow that's dusted off right on the lid, beneath the brow bone and a little right at the base of the eye.
Another variation may also be salmon eye shadow applied the same way but lined with a hint of lavender eyeliner only on the lid to make the eyes pop.
For the lips, it's time to give that matte lipstick a break and opt for some color shine or pearlized hues that come in bright pinks and lavenders, easily complementing your choice of eye shadow.
Stick to a lighter, more natural looking mix of blush and bronzer.
Conservative chicks who are first timers in the world of wild makeup may opt for more nude lipstick shades to further downplay the entire look.
However, I highly suggest leaving the natural lipstick shades for work days in order to perfectly channel that stress-free weekend mode.
The look is perfect for dark brown to intense black tresses preferably devoid of highlights so the focus is on the face.
Throw on summer bright threads and get ready for a sweet summer escape. (FREEMAN)
