Glitterati at The Northwing

CEBU, Philippines - Solidifying, yet again, its appeal as Cebu’s ultimate lifestyle destination, Glitterati unveiled at The Northwing of SM City Cebu last weekend amidst thunderous applause by the invited guests and the social set present. Following the footsteps of the characters of Gossip Girl, an American teen drama series based on the book series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar, Cebu’s young personalities, the likes of Annette Osmeña, Amanda Darza, Amanda Booth, Angeli Gomez, Izarri Ugarte, etc. shared the glass runway with Cebu’s top mannequins wearing the latest collections of The Northwing’s retail labels. The show mirrors on the privileged young adults on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in New York City, style-wise.

If your fetish is rhinestone-studded dresses and leather jackets, then there was plenty more to admire in the show’s opening salvo. Nodding in the direction of Yves Saint Laurent’s late-sixties/early-seventies heyday and displaying a deft hand for couturelike cuts, Bohemain Rhapsody sent out bell-shaped coat-dresses in flowing cotton matched with latex tights for a modern appeal and many more ethnic touch. More up-to-date were laser cut leather jackets, especially the ones lined in silk and laser cut out dresses. When it came to after-dark, a knee-grazing, gray silk shantung dress with a spray of crystals decorating the halter neckline was almost regal, while a short and striped number in the silk cotton blend was primed for the nightclub dance floor matched with pearls, chunky ones.

If forced to choose between the demure and the edgy, the collections would seem to gravitate to a healthy balance of the two—the clue was not only in that latex but also in the thigh-high leather booties to alternate with some feminine dresses complete with headbands, flower brooches, pearl chokers and earrings and ladylike handbags. These were a less obvious, but still kinky, a touch that kept the collection from looking like a nostalgia trip and more like a sexy bit of fun. Just the way A – List’s Cybill Gayatin and Kaye Luym want it to be.

Bravissimo!
