CEBU, Philippines - For those who are still trying to figure out what to do over the summer, one great way to spend your time would be to immerse yourself in art and give the inner artist in you a big nudge.
Art is as hot as the scorching heat of the sun. It is everywhere and it is right in your reach as the Fine Arts Students Organization (FASO) of the University of the Philippines Visayas Cebu College (UPVCC) is holding another Summer Art Workshop.
Now running on its 25th year, this Summer Art Workshop aims to promote the Fine Arts program in UP, giving something back to the community through promoting local art and also teaching art to future artists. That said, this workshop is open to ages 4 and above. Both young and old are encouraged to join. All that is needed is the willingness to be taught and the drive to learn.
Frances Enriquez, one of the workshop facilitators, asserts that there is no reason for anyone to be shy. She goes on by saying that “Art is a skill. It can be taught and learned.” Jasper Micah Colico, also a workshop facilitator, continues by saying that “We all know how to draw. It’s just a matter of enhancing this skill.”
And there are different courses offered in the Summer Art Workshop to enhance this skill, specifically: Art Appreciation, Drawing and Design (A&B), Advanced Drawing and Painting. Art Appreciation classes are for ages four to six years old. Drawing and Design A classes are for those between ages seven to nine. Drawing and Design B classes are for those between ages 10 to 12. As for Advanced Drawing classes and Painting classes, they are both open to ages 12 and above.
The Summer Art Workshop promises to be packed with fun-filled activities that are worthwhile. For a registration fee of 1800 pesos, participants are promised an enjoyable Summer Art Workshop committed to a peer-inspired way of teaching. Colico also adds that, “You will not only learn art. You will also learn to interact with people. Together with the teachers, the participants will grow as artists.”
The workshop will be held at the UPVCC Undergraduate Building in Gorordo Avenue, Barangay Lahug. Classes will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, April 12 to May 7, 2010. Enrollment for the Summer Art Workshop is still ongoing up to April 19.
Enriquez ended up by inviting everyone to “Try it out. It’s fun!” For inquiries just call 233-8208.
