The class of 1959 of the Abellana National School recently held its 50th Golden Jubilee at the school’s main library.
The jam session circa 1959 affair was preceded by a Thanksgiving Mass. Out-of-town alumni, including those from abroad, returned to the school campus to refresh once again their high school life with their classmates who are now senior citizens. Long-lost memories were revived. The jubilarian theme was “Journeying Together from Success to Significance.” This theme was also adopted as the theme of the general alumni of the Abellana National School, headed by Wilfredo Midel, which will have its alumni homecoming on January 8 and 9, 2010 at the Abellana National School campus.
Crisp US dollar bills, courtesy of balikbayan Raul Salazar, were given to lucky participants and on the spot winners of parlor games. Valuable plaques were also awarded to their living teachers. The ‘59ners feeding program shared its nutritious food with the students. They also donated aluminum bulletin board, a Philippine flag and a school banner, which were accepted by Teresita C.Dico, school librarian, and Ernesto Jacel, school principal. The ‘59ners were given periodic lectures and small group discussion on the topics “How to Stay Fit and Young?”, “How to Prevent Aging?” and “Values Integration” conducted by Dr. Jose Espina, Dr. Roseline V. Makiling, a duly accredited counselor, and Dr. Ester Velasquez, former president of Cebu Normal University and now consultant of the provincial government on International Relations. The ‘59ners Technical Working Group also attended an international forum on “Keys to Happiness” in Casino Español de Cebu. The lecturer Sis.
