CEBU, Philippines - On the first day of October, Marco Polo Plaza formally launched “Oktoberfest” featuring the best of Bavarian cuisine. It’s also the time of the year when beer kegs and mugs line up and point to Cebu’s finest. This is the fourth time Marco Polo Plaza celebrated the grand annual German beer festival – Oktoberfest!
Just in time for the launch was Marco Polo’s General Manager Hans Hauri who arrived a day before from a trip to his motherland Germany.
Guests of honor were Consul of Germany in Cebu, Franz Seidenschwarz and his lady Elizabeth. To open the Oktoberfest, three giant pretzels were sliced by Consul Seidenschwarz, guest Chef Dietmar Dietrich and GM Hauri. After the slicing ceremony, we were brought to Café Marco where lunch prepared by guest Chef Dietmar was. He then presented a storm of mouthwatering delights such as Frankfurter meat pies and sauerkraut, Roast Pork Knuckles, Wesswurst, Rheinisher, and Sauerbraten, plus a tableful of sinful desserts like Black Forest cake, strudels and an assortment of German sausages.
Wow! It was fantastic. We were almost tempted to savor the many splendored desserts. As we made our exit, GM Hauri had some give-aways for us all – a jar of pretzels which was truly yummy. The fest goes on until the end of the month!
