My Fantasy Island

Tonight I wined and dined

Far away from home I left behind.

With friends and lovers whom I cherish

Good food I savored with relish.

I’m in an island full of mystery

It takes away all my misery.

No, it’s not Bantayan nor is it Mactan

But here you are taken beyond.

Here the sands and time are divine

Another world you will find.

This place can cast its magic

Not even the gods could deflect.

Although known for voodooism

It is not a euphemism.

For its beauty and wonder never ceases to enthrall

This is heaven for the wandering soul.

Many a time was I seduced

This island my desires could never refuse.

I share my love for its sights and sound —

Siquijor! You’re the fantasy I have found.

(Instead of my usual article, I composed this poem in less than five minutes while having a beach side dinner in one of my favorite spots in the world, the Coco Grove Resort in San Juan, Siquijor. Along with lovely company that evening, the natural sights and impeccable food drew in inspiration. I just had to capture my thoughts writing on my cell phone!)
