The surrounding waters of the area offer a variety of dives (both shallow and deep) as well as excellent opportunities not only for whale shark watching, but even whale shark riding from November to July!
What Tagbak Marine Park offers:
Situated at the heart of Liloan Bay, the Tagbak Marine Park offers a range of activities that will suit your interests!
Drift diving
This is strongly recommended for experienced divers only.
Explore the wonders of the depths! One of the area’s major attractions is the drift dive in the channel under the Liloan Bridge (the Wawa Bridge).
The strong, alternating currents—the whirlpools (locally known as “lilo”, thus the name Liloan) in the strait which promises a breathtaking and challenging dive! The vicinity is enriched with coral formations and various caves along the dive path. It is also an ideal place to spot manta rays and different schools of fish.
Snorkeling
If diving is not included in your list of to-do’s, then how about a surface exploration of the marine park? Reach out for those snorkels, instead! Diverse species of fish and corals are found in this area. Be mesmerized by their different colors as you take a splash into the cool, tempting waters of the bay!
Whale shark watching
Whale shark watching can be a real fun-filled experience!—that is, if you just prefer to stay in the islet which serves as the base of the park. Be amazed by these gigantic, yet harmless creatures of the sea! Or, if you are longing for more adventure, why not try whale shark riding? Riding at the back of the talikitiki (whale shark) has already become a common thing among Liloanons that even young boys bravely try!
The Tagbak Marine Park, as part of Liloan Bay, is in the protection of the Local Government Unit of Liloan, Southern Leyte. Destroying the reefs as well as the other forms of marine life in this area is strictly prohibited.
