These young stars, banned by the government in some Middle Eastern countries for "encouraging poor morality," are Nancy Ajram, Dana Halabi, Haifa Wehbe and Ruby. But these singers who have fought for their dignity are praised by most Arabic women and have currently beaten politicians and writers in Arab popularity polls. That is amazing! It is good to know that women are starting to fight for their own rights!
Nancy Ajram, for example. Her most famous video is as a buxom waitress wending her way sinuously around tables in a café and cheering up a young male at a table. It was a shock to most Muslims, but hey, there's finally a woman who stood up for herself. This was when she was voted as one of the most important Arabs.
Exposed flesh is very rarely seen in the Middle East and hard to imagine women without the "hijab" (headscarf). We all have that image of a woman all covered up from head to toe, but this might not be for very long and it's not hard to see why. Ruby for example, is wearing just a boa constrictor. Then, there is Haifa Wehbe in a one-woman wet t-shirt contest and finally, Dana Halabi, jiggling like a model on hot coals.
In Arabic cities, you will hear and see the love of these singers by most young women. It is clear that these four new singers have truly raised the Arabic standards. It's wonderful to hear how the world is quickly changing and teaching a new generation of Arab girls one type of feminism will surely make room for more. Let's just wait and see on their success worldwide.
