For the first time, Boy 2 Quizon is playing a gay role in the forthcoming series Coffee Prince, the remake of a popular Koreanovela which stars Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal.
We got to talk to Boy 2 at the presscon of Coffee Prince which premieres on GMA 7’s Telebabad block on Monday, October 8.
Boy 2 says this is the right time to reinvent himself as an actor. Yes, he is a mainstay of Bubble Gang where he honed his craft as a comedian but doing a gay role is a new challenge for him.
“I believe it’s about time that I reinvent myself,” said Boy 2. Part of that reinvention is cutting his hair. He now sports a new hairstyle. “With my old hairstyle, I was limited to certain types of roles but now that I’ve cut my hair, I can be more flexible when it comes to accepting acting assignments.”
He says he wants to do something different when it comes to roles whether on TV or in the movies. “I don’t want to limit myself when it comes to acting roles. When I went to the story conference of Coffee Prince, the staff still didn’t know what role to give me. But Direk Ricky (Davao) said the gay role would fit me so I readily accepted it. I know I’d be challenged by it.”
Doing a gay role is some sort of tribute that he is giving to comedy king Dolphy, his lolo, whom we all know portrayed countless gay roles on the big screen.
“I am more inspired to work now more than ever because I know that as a member of the Quizon family, we ought to continue the legacy of our lolo whom we all admire and love so much,” added Boy 2.

Paulo Avelino is ready for criticisms that would come his way now that he has released his self-titled debut album under Universal Records. The album has six cuts, plus minus ones and has the song “She Cries” as its debut single. The songs can be downloaded via www.musicstore.com.ph and Paulo expressed elation that a number of his fans had started downloading the songs from his album.
Although he is not known as singer, the actor of “Walang Hanggan” said that as a youngster he grew up wanting to become a part of a band. He didn’t have professional training in music but during the recording, he relied on the guidance of his record producer Ito Rapadas, former soloist of the teen group Neocolours.
Paulo said he welcomes comments and criticisms when it comes to his career, especially on his singing or acting and he considers these criticisms as a challenge to better his craft as an actor and to continue to improve himself.
“Dati ay binabatikos din nila ang acting ko hanggang sa gumaling na ako sa acting,” said ni Paulo who won as best actor in the Gawad Urian for the indie film Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa.
He welcomes criticisms, says Paulo, because this is another way for him to know what aspects of his career he should improve on. He is launching his self-titled album on Sunday, October 7 at the SM North EDSA Skydome in Quezon City which also serves as his fans day.
The said album launch is also Paulo’s way of thanking his fans who have always been supportive of his showbiz career.
