Gabby Eigenmann is finally a leading man

Gabby Eigenmann is excited being entrusted with the lead role in "Broken Vow," the newest offering of GMA’s Afternoon Prime. And for good measure – it’s his first solo acting vehicle. After doing mostly kontrabida roles in several GMA teleseryes, the latest was as Desmond in the top-rating "Munting Heredera" (for which he won Outstanding Performance by A Supporting Actor in A Drama Series from the Golden Screen TV Awards), Gabby gets the role of Roberto in "Broken vow" opposite Bianca King whom he is working for the first time.

"I hope that I could showcase my acting talent here. This is a big break for me. Saka ang sarap nang pakiramdam kasi kung dati ipinakilala ako as also starring Gabby Eigenmann, this time unang-una akong tinawag, kasama ng mga bida," the Kapuso star said at the media launch of "Broken Vow" held Monday night at GMA 7 studio.

What makes the role of Roberto (the name of the character he plays in "Broken Vow") is that he’s good-natured. "Mabait si Roberto. Doon pa lang malaki na ang pagkakaiba. It’s a 180 degree turn from the evil character that I played in Munting Heredera," Gabby added. "It’s quite a challenge for me because this is the first time I am standing here onstage not as a villain and I am very thankful for GMA for trusting me. Ibang character kaya iba ang approach ko rito. Iba ang makikita ninyong Gabby Eigenmann."

According to GMA Executive Ms. Lilibeth Rasonable, the Kapuso had started to produce edgy stories and projects on the GMA afternoon prime with good results. "We saw that the viewers also ask for edgy stories. As a matter of fact, the performance of our afternoon shows are very good so we are going to this every so often but we will be giving each story a different treatment and stories but we are going to be edgy and daring so that it would also be challenging for the actors."

After more than a year of being successful in solving various cases presented on the program, "Public Atorni: Asunto o Areglo" takes another big leap as the mediation program on TV5 gets a new afternoon slot which started on Monday, January 30.

The show is hosted by Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta, which has gotten its fair share of the audience on its former late evening slot every Thursday but takes another step as it goes on the air every day with a new time slot.

But Atty. Acosta hastens to add that she’s not competing with Amy Perez’s "Face to Face" which goes back to its morning slot. "The cases we tackle in Public Atorni are geared for court litigation. If the two parties don’t get into a settlement, then the case immediately goes to court. But if the parties agree to settle then everybody is happy," says the Atty. Acosta.

"It’s not easy to go into mediation because we have to explain very well why we want the contending parties to settle their differences without having to go through trial. No matter how bad a person is, there’s still a goodness in his heart and he’d realize he did something wrong. Basta handang magsisi at magbagong buhay, pwede naman magkapatawaran," said the brilliant lady lawyer.

She said that although some people may see Public Atorni as the rival show of Face to Face, Atty. Acosta says this isn’t true. "There is no competition between me and Amy. If Mr. Pangilinan gives ample support to Face to Face, bongga rin ang pagsuporta niya sa Public Atorni. Huwag ninyo kaming intrigahin," she added. "Nakikita ako araw-araw sa Face to Face before and I owe that program a debt of gratitude."

She added the station doesn’t earn from Public Atorni but TV5 is doing it as a form of service to the people.
