TV host Daphne Oseña-Paez to speak at Creative Summit

CEBU, Philippines - Celebrity and businesswoman Daphne Osena-Paez of ABS-CBN Broadcast Centre will speak at the “1st Cebu Creative Industries Summit,” one of the standout events of the annual Cebu Business Month spearheaded by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and organized with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Cebu Provincial Office and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Region VII.

Daphne Oseña-Paez is a TV host, producer, and businesswoman. She is widely regarded as a fashion and beauty icon for her production and hosting of television programs Urban Zone, Proudly Filipina, and F. She is a Special Advocate for Children for UNICEF and a brand ambassador for Olay. She also has her own line of jewelry and home furnishings.

The “1st Cebu Creative Industries Summit” aims to better harness and develop Cebu’s creative industries and entrepreneurs for a healthier local economy. It is the first-ever creative summit slated on June 21-22, 2011 (Tuesday and Wednesday) at the City Sports Club Cebu in Cebu Business Park.

The CCCI strongly advocates Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPOs), tourism, and entrepreneurship as Cebu’s prime assets and economy drivers.

Distinguished speakers on the first day include Director-General Ricardo Blancaflor of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Daphne Oseña-Paez of ABS-CBN Broadcast Centre on the topic “Turning Passion for Creativity into a Business Enterprise,” and Henry Schumacher of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) on “A Global and Philippine Perspective on the Creative Industries: Understanding their Contribution to the Economy and Potentials for Growth.

Other speakers include key officers from the DTI-Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and Cinemalaya Foundation.

The second day will have Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Fortunato dela Peña, DOST Region 7 Director Rene Burt Llanto (Philippine Innovation Roadmap Presentation), and Engr. Nestor Archival (Innovative Entrepreneurship Experience).

Other speakers include officials from the Intellectual Property Office, Nature’s Legacy Eximport, GIZ (German Development Cooperation), and UP-Cebu Technology Business Incubator.

The two-day summit gathers Cebu’s best talents and the country’s foremost luminaries to promote creative entrepreneurship and techno-preneurship, as well as to unite all concerned sectors as a synergized body.
