CEBU, Philippines - The JRG Halad Museum, founded by The Freeman chairman Jose R. Gullas, announces its theme song competition, open to professional and amateur composers who can compose music for the lyrics of the official Halad theme. A cash prize of P50,000 awaits the creator of the winning composition.
The lyrics, which take inspiration from the memoir of Jose R. Gullas entitled “To Never Forget,” tell of a man’s serenade to a beloved; singing his fears of losing her as well as vows to take care of her.
The romantic lyrics are also very much reflective of the purpose of the Halad museum, which stands to represent the founder’s intention to preserve and honor Cebuano musical heritage. The museum aims to be a repository of Cebuano and Visayan musical treasures, including composers, artists and other memorabilia as well as a destination for an experience of Cebuano music and performing arts, cultural heritage and exhibitions.
Now accepting submissions from professional and amateur composers, the Halad Museum is looking for original compositions that possess a serenade or ballad-like melody in rumba and bossa nova format. They must be three to five minutes long.
Participants are required to submit a sample recording of the composition (whether cassette, studio or Mp3 format) to be accompanied with a filled-up entry form, which you can get from the Halad Museum or request through email (contacthalad.museum@gmail.com). All submissions will be the property of Halad Museum.
The submissions will be judged according to melody (50%) and impact (50%). Only one winning composition will be chosen.
Deadline of submissions will be on April 5, 2011. The winning composition will be unveiled also on April on the blessing and relaunch of the newly-expanded Halad Museum.
Halad Museum is located at V. Gullas St. Cor. D. Jakosalem St. and is open from 9-5pm, Mondays to Fridays. For more information, call 268-2579. (FREEMAN)
