Vice Ganda serves up laughs, music in Sinulog show

CEBU, Philippines - Vice Ganda headlined the Globe-sponsored Sinulog show at Ayala Center Cebu last Sunday, one of the events held simultaneously across the metropolis to cap the annual festivities. The comedian is also the newest face of the telecoms company, particularly for its prepaid service, joining the ranks of such celebrity endorsers as "Popstar Princess" Sarah Geronimo and popular child actor Zaijian Jaranilla.

Vice, who shot to fame as the resident judge of the now noontime show of ABS-CBN, “Showtime,” delivered his signature irreverent humor, ribbing and roasting guest stand-up comedians from Manila, people from the audience, and of course, himself. The jokes were noticeably tamer, however, compared to the ones he unleashed at his first comedy-concert in Cebu mid of last year.

Because it was drizzling, audiences from the back portion of the jam-packed venue, the south surface parking area of Ayala Cebu, yelled for the people on the front areas to put their umbrellas down so they can have a clearer view while Vice was poking fun and performing some pop numbers.

This prompted a reaction from Vice, who said that he cannot force people to put down their umbrellas as they might fell ill. Then he quipped, “Pero tingnan niyo nalang ng masama para ma-konsensya.”

Earlier in the show, local stand-up comedians plus a performance from the rock band Itchyworms prepped up the crowd. Incidentally, Itchyworms member Jugs Jugueta is another “Showtime” mainstay.

Itchyworms dished out some of their hits from the albums “Noontime Show” and “Self-Titled” plus several OPM covers, and drew some “celebrity groupies” like film director Quark Henares and fashion designer Kate Torralba.

The concert also marked the launch of Globe’s latest promo, the Superfree Weekends.
