Kristel Romero’s launching film titled “Pitas” had a successful advanced screening at SM North EDSA Cinema 6 last Friday, February 26. The niece of Alma Moreno is very pleased with the reception given to her by people who came to watch the film directed by Joey Romero, the son of National Artist for Film Eddie Romero.
After doing mostly supporting roles in her earlier films, Kristel makes her bid for the big time as she essays the lead role in “Pitas” where she is paired with award-winning actor Sid Lucero.
“Sobrang kabado ako kanina bago ang showing ng movie pero masaya na ako ngayon. Maganda naman ang story at maayos naman ang kinalabasan ng pelikula. Nagawa naman lahat ang work namin nang maayos,” said Kristel in our chat after the advance screening of the film.
Kristel did love scenes with Sid and she didn’t have qualms baring herself before the cameras. “I consider it a big opportunity to be given the chance to work with Sid. He’s a very good actor and he made me feel relaxed and comfortable in our sexy scenes. He took good care of me,” related the Star Magic contract star who is also a mainstay of the ABS-CBN Sunday noontime show ASAP.
What also made Kristel feel good about her launching is the chance to work with award-winning actors Bembol Roco and Rio Locsin. She considers it a big honor to have worked with such esteemed artists.
And even if she was asked to do sexy scenes in “Pitas,” Kristel gamely did all of them. “Ang tinitignan ko naman talaga ay ‘yung kuwento, hindi naman ang unang tinitignan ko ay kung ano ‘yung ipapakita ko pagdating sa mga maseselan na eksena. Para sa akin, importante talaga ‘yung istorya at saka kung talagang kailangan ng sexy scene. I think natural naman talaga ito sa ganitong klaseng pelikula,” she said.
She also added that she received a new film offer but is waiting for the go signal of Star Magic if it’s going to be accepted. It’s fine with Kristel if she will be offered another sexy role but if she would have her way, she’d go for another project so she'll get show that she has versatility as an actress.

As part of their aim to celebrate and reintroduce the artistry of Ms. Nora Aunor to the younger generation, the International Circle of Online Noranians (ICON), has launched the Nora Aunor Caravan which features a free film showing of one or two of her classic movies in selected universities and colleges. The screening is followed by a panel discussion.
The caravan is already underway and its first stop was held at the Southwestern University in Cebu in cooperation with the Mass Communication Students of the College of Arts and Sciences and its Student Council headed by Mr. Alain Bracamonte.
The featured film was “Bona” and it was screened last Monday, March 1, followed by an open forum facilitated by Dr. Leovi Manalo of the Center for Research and Evaluation of SWU.
According to the Nora Aunor fan blog superstarstruck.weebly.com: Bona, released in 1980, is regarded the best–regarded work of the late Lino Brocka. The central character is a young, starstruck schoolgirl (played by Nora Aunor) who falls in love with an aging actor (Phillip Salvador) and becomes his servant. She waits on him loyally in his decrepit shack, receiving nothing for her labors but the privilege of being his slave. When the actor decides he has had enough of her and attempts to toss her aside, Bona retaliates in a wholly unexpected, utterly justified fit of violent rage.
The Philippine premier film actress was recently nominated for the 10 Best Asian Actresses of the Decade (2000-2009) Award in the 2010 Green Globe Film Awards, along with Asian film superstars such as Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi and Maggie Cheung.

“Building character, building values, building foundation for life!”
This was how Quezon City Vice Mayor and Liberal Party mayoralty Herbert “Bistek” Bautista described the value of sports in this generation of Wii, PSPs and Xbox at the opening of the 8th Batang QC Olympics at the Amoranto Stadium last Saturday, February 27.
Bistek thanked Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte for the generous support he has extended to the program for the past nine years, which has produced several first-rate athletes to the national sports pool.
“It is with great honor and pride that the QC Batang Olympics has produced topnotch athletes who have excelled in their respective field in sports. Even if we are already in the Xbox generation, let us abandon the ideals of honesty and fairness which sports teach us as individuals and as a team,” Bistek added.
According to him, sports plays a key role in character building, and by teaching the virtues of dedication, perseverance, fortitude and self-discipline.
“Despite the dominance of digital games and virtual sports, I hope that that Batang QC Olympics continues to offer values of sportsmanship and build one’s self-identity. And I am happy that Batang QC Olympics still have the same unifying effect over people of Quezon City."
He encouraged local governments to invest in sports and other related activities to develop talent, build character and develop confidence among their young constituents.
