Ballet Philippines' best of the best in masterworks

CEBU, Philippines - Ballet Philippines held a ballet performance at SM Cinema of SM City Cebu. Dubbed “Masterworks”, it proved to be a showcase of their best works in celebration of its 40th year as the country's "premier dance company" and one of the dance stalwarts in Southeast Asia.

Masterworks featured a rich retrospective of Filipino culture including Agnes Locsin's neo-ethnic Igorot number, a fierce and drum-beating dance presentation featuring an unusual combination of g-strings and pointe shoes; Edna Vida's Ensalada, which was a mixture of lighthearted tableaus of youthful spontaneity and young love danced to favorite Filipino tunes of Ryan Cayabyab's "Mamang Kutsero," "Bakya Mo Neneng" and "Limang Dipang Tao"; and Bam Damian's athletic and acrobatic pas de deux Evacuation.

Ballet Philippines is a multi-awarded ballet institution in the country, performing all over the world and reaping accolades for their exquisite performances.

The group performed in a Gala Performance on February 4, and a Student’s Matinee on February 5. Their repertoire include a balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet, Excerpts from Bach Concerto, Ensalada - Mamang Kutsero, Bakya Mo Neneng, Limang Dipang Tao, Gaano Kadalas, Tales of the Manuvu - Trio w/ Manama, Noong Unang Panahon, Swimming the Ilog Pasig, and more.

Ballet Philippines’ Masterworks was also presented by the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation, Inc.
