CEBU, Philippines - Before the year ends, Cebuanos are set to experience that larger-than-life and ultimate movie experience as SM Cebu opens its IMAX Theater come December 2009.
To be housed inside the SM Cebu Cinema 4, this will be the first IMAX theater in Cebu and the third IMAX theater in the Philippines – the first opened at SM Mall of Asia and the second one most recently at SM North Edsa.
In an interview with The Freeman, IMAX Senior Vice President and Managing Director Don Savant revealed that they are excited to open IMAX in Cebu.
“Cebu is the second biggest city in the Philippines and so I’m expecting you guys would appreciate IMAX,” he said.
On December 18, 2009, SM City Cebu will launch its first IMAX Theater with Avatar 3D.
“SM Cebu IMAX will very much like be the ones here in Manila. We will retrofit the theater into IMAX style. We will increase the screen size floor to ceiling, making it closer to the audience. The images will be of higher resolution,” Savant shared.
Prices of the regular IMAX movie range from P400 to P600. However, IMAX 3D Digital Films are priced at P200 to P300.
“Prices of IMAX Cebu will be the same with Manila. But for those who can’t afford much, we have school bookings where students can watch our educational films at a lower price,” Savant said.
Major installations of the said theater will start on October.
