The year 2008 has been a good year for Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban as she reaped acting awards including the Villain of the Year in the 1st Supreme to the Extreme Awards of the Philippine Star for her TV role as Scarlett in “Iisa Pa Lamang.”
For her performance in the movie “A Love Story,” wherein she co-starred with acting stalwarts Aga Muhlach and Maricel Soriano, Angelica also won the best supporting actress trophy twice—in the FAP Luna Awards and ENPRESS Golden Screen Awards.
She also ranked 6th in Maxim’s Hottest 100 Women and 10th in FHM Philippines’ 100 Sexiest Women.
Sultry looks and strong acting talent make a heady combination that’s exuded by this former child star, who started her career with the kiddie afternoon show, “Ang TV.” Actually, Angelica is no stranger to acting awards after winning several of them as a child actress. But many child actors fade into oblivion as they make the transition to adulthood.
Despite past bouts of career slump, Angelica has, before the public eye, emerged or rather, grown into an impressive actress who is able to induce the necessary sting into her acting that could put her on the pedestal reserved for the acting elite.
Small wonder acting offers have come aplenty nowadays.
“Maraming offers pero hindi muna ako nag-confirm. Gusto ko macha-challenge talaga ako sa gagawin kong role. Gusto ko yong mga challenging roles,” Angelica said in an interview with The FREEMAN during the jam-packed Sinulog Kapamilya Fiesta at Ayala Center Cebu’s South Terminal.
She has, however, accepted an upcoming movie that will cast her again in a kontrabida role. Without divulging details, Angelica said that the movie will certainly test her acting sensibilities.
Angelica’s inclusion in the Saturday gag show, “Banana Split,” has proven to be an easier and enjoyable project to do as she can be herself.
“Nakakatuwa, kasi kung ano ang nakikita nyo sa mga ginagawa ko sa set, gano’n ako sa totong buhay… makulit at jologs,” enthused Angelica.
Complementing her eventful showbiz career is her contented love life with long-time boyfriend, the actor-model Derek Ramsay. When asked if wedding bells are ringing, the 22-year-old actress said, “Wala pa… hindi pa namin pinaplano at hindi pa namin pinag-uusapan. Ang masasabi ko lang, nag-e-enjoy muna kami sa lahat ng ginagawa namin.”
Angelica and Derek are bringing their real romance to the TV screens as the couple is the featured love team on the ABS-CBN Sunday drama series “Your Song” this February.
