Rivermaya, Brownman Revival at tonight's SMB Nat'l Beer Drinking Finals

Another opportunity of earning half a million peso while enjoying the country’s iconic beer brand, San Miguel Pale Pilsen awaits this year’s champion of the ongoing National Beer Drinking Contest sponsored annually by San Miguel Brewery, Inc. (SMB).

Six semi-finalist teams, each composed of five members, are aspiring to make it to the October 24 national finals in Cebu and beat the 43.5 seconds record of last year’s top team from Bacolod.

“This will be SMB’s 9th year of nourishing friendships and cultivating teamwork among our kababayan through this colorful competition. We are also hoping that the financial rewards will contribute to their enjoyment of life,” says SMB National Sales Manager Debbie D. Namalata.

According to Namalata, the company has also prepared more exciting activities to bring the trademark SMB fiesta spirit to the contest venues. She adds that the National Beer Drinking Contest is one significant activity that shows SMB’s commitment to develop fun and camaraderie, in line with its recently-unveiled company slogan “Drink to Life.”

This time, the national finals spell a three-day celebration, beginning October 23 to 25 at the MEZ1 Football Field, Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.

Mindanao area finals took place last October 18 at the Matina Town Square. Featured bands were Code 4 and Check It Out.

During the contest proper tonight popular bands Rivermaya and Brownman Revival plus several local bands are expected to spice up the event.

The fastest beer-drinking team will bag the P500,000 cash prize; second and third placers will receive P200,000 and P100,000.00 respectively. Consolation cash prizes will also be given away to the other finalists.

Total number of participating teams in this year’s San Miguel National Beer Drinking Contest is estimated at 19,500 with a total cash prize of close to three million pesos for all winning teams.
