500 to convene at the 27th CACCI international confab

CEBU, Philippines - More than 500 delegates are expected to join the 27th International Conference of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) this coming March 14 and 15 (2013) in Cebu.

The conference which will be attended by businessmen from 27 countries in Asia Pacific, aims to discuss regional economic cooperation measures and to distill and crystallize business viewpoints and ideas with the hope of achieving economic cooperation and development in the region.

The 27th CACCI conference chairman Jose Ng said in an interview during the formal launching of the confab Tuesday at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel, said that this is the opportunity for Cebu to showcase its investment advantage to business leaders in Asia Pacific, as well as the province tourism charm.

The two-day conference will banner the theme “Asia Pacific: Catalyst to Global Recovery”, will also discuss and exchange views on measures that the business sector and governments in the region can undertake, a midst a global slowdown, to help sustain and enable the Asia Pacific region to play a catalytic role in the global recovery.

Topics such as the euro debt crisis and its implications for Asian businesses, sustainable energy resources and food security, the impact of bilateral agreements on regional trade and investments, the role of women and youth in economic development, and trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines and Cebu, will be thoroughly discussed during the event.

CACCI director general David Liu said that the organization choose CCCI to host this year?s conference, because of its remarkable prestige in helping its members, which is a good example for a business organizations around the region.

According to Liu CACCI recognized the important role of CCCI in promoting its members, and its contribution to Cebu’s economic growth.

This is the first time that Cebu was chosen as the host of CACCI event, although a previous Conference of the organization was held in Manila few years back.

CCCI which is also heavily promoting tourism growth for Cebu, will also formulate a good tour package for the delegates, after the two-day Conference.

Cebu, CCCI won the bid to host the prestigious conference of business owners and chief executive officers (CEOs) in 27 countries of Asia-Pacific region, outsmarted other interested countries such as Pakistan, Iran, Japan and Korea.

“This is the best time to showcase Cebu to hundreds of investors. We should make Cebu much more attractive in investments and tourism,” said CCCI former president Francis O. Monera said.

During the bidding presentation conducted by Monera, he said the CCCI promoted Cebu as a “bustling Metropolis” which is ideal for business and leisure (tourism).

Cebu, should impress the delegates, after-all they are the decision makers for big ticket investments, Monera said.

CCCI president Prudencio Gesta said in his speech during the launching, that Cebu’s investment advantages, and tourism charm will be heavily promoted during the two-day conference.

Gesta said a close look will be take at the trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines and in Cebu, and examine why the country is attracting a lot of investors, making it a business hotspot and one of the “flavors of the year” among the Asian markets this year. —(FREEMAN)
