CEBU, Philippines - After recent efforts and success in reviving the Cebu chapter of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines, ECOP Cebu president Jose Ng shared that they are strengthening the group by gathering more members and coordinating with the national office to come up with the first regional conference in Visayas.
Ng said that they are in the process of recruiting more members to be part of ECOP, which is a private and non-partisan organization that aims to unify employees and employer's organizations to secure and enhance employers’ interests in all aspects of labor-management relations.
Ng said that ECOP Cebu chapter was inactive for over 10 years and had 26 members at that time and they wish to make it a bigger group and help more companies in terms of their labor management.
He said that so far, companies which they have encouraged to join have showed their interest since they know that ECOP would help in coming up with better benefits for their laborers. Ng said that the companies like the idea of how ECOP works since it gives specific rules on how to improve their respective managements.
“They see that there is a need to find ways on how we can improve or enhance the labor management,” he added.
Ng said that at present they are made up of 30 members but they are targeting to have at least 100 members hopefully by the end of this year.
Aside from this, Ng said that they are also hoping for a regional conference to be done in Visayas where they could gather all the concerns from the members of Central Visayas and be able to address it as a group and also present it during national conferences.
He explained that it would be like the Business forum of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry where different matters were discussed and advises were given to businessmen.
At present, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is hand-in-hand with the tasks implemented by ECOP like programs and seminars given to their members.
Aside from labor and social policies, and proper implementation of rules and regulations in different companies for the welfare of the laborers, ECOP specializes in legal opinions and advice and counseling sessions as well as doing surveys and technical studies.
