SM City Cebu recently opened a cyberzone to provide a one-stop venue for all IT-related products and services.
Located at the second level of the SM City Cebu's Northwing, the Cyberzone serves as a complete hub for technology as it brings together all of the mall’s IT merchants that offers a wide variety of products and services.
Sherry A. Tuvilla, SM City Cebu's Mall Manager said "Cyberzone serves as a hub for young, dynamic and trendy individuals and a gathering place for buyers, users and lovers of technology.”
The 4,127 square meters of commercial space will house around 38 tenants, both existing and new ones.
Currently, shops such as Lenovo, Asus, Sony Ericsson, MicroCADD, Aerophone, Electroworld, Airtouch, Thinking Tools, Save N' Earn, Ngenius IT Hub and the first ever stand-alone retail shop of Dell, already opened at the Cyberzone.
This month, the SM administration is expecting around 20 tenants to start operating while the rest will come in on July and August such as Apple's I-Store, Hewlett Packard (HP), Samsung, Neo, Motorola, network gaming shop I Tech, Sony, Verzio, D Zone Canon, Sun Cellular, specialty shop Digital Walker, Memoxpress, Game Gizmo, among others.
The zone also aims to provide SM shop goers “a complete technology experience” that is more than just their usual retail experience, said Tuvilla.
“We did this special zoning because there is already an advancement of technology and a growing interest of the market for IT-related products. We also want to create an awareness for patronizing products with licenses for consumer protection. With the zoning, we can also do big events to promote the brands and products which our tenants carry,” she added.
This new trend of malls in creating a special zone allocated for ICT-related products and services reflects the increasing demand of the market for technological innovations, said Tuvilla.
“Other SM Supermalls are also converting their spaces to create a concept similar to the cyberzone. For us here in SM Cebu, we have always done zoning for our tenants but this is actually the first time we put a name for it and we created an upscale and highly inter-active technology hub,” she explained.
This coming June 28 to 29, the Cyberzone will host an international event for the World Cyber Game's (WCG) provincial elimination leg as well as the Vis-Min elimination round of the Asian Cyber Games (ACG) on July 5 and 6.
Gamers nationwide who are interested to compete in the WCG in Singapore are expected to participate in this event.
