Globe seeks apps for Yolanda relief efforts

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom is encouraging the Globe Labs developer community to come up with software applications that could help in the Typhoon Yolanda relief efforts.

“We encourage developers to build apps or services that entrust social responsibility, especially apps that would address the needs of those affected by Typhoon Yolanda to make donations, monitoring, relief operations, and other activities easier for the government, NGOs, private organizations, and the community. We already have existing APIs (application programming interfaces) which they can tap to create the apps,” said Anne Michelle Santos, Globe Labs developer relations manager.

In line with this, Globe Labs is set to conduct a hackathon that will showcase its new APIs that can be used to create programs for voice, SMS, and mobile payments.

Selected apps that innovatively use the new APIs especially for social good have a chance to be rewarded with P40,000 each, subject to applicable taxes, plus P5,000 worth of API credits as an incentive from Globe Labs.

The Globe Labs Developer Day is scheduled today and tomorrow at the Globe Valero Telepark Makati. The event includes workshop sessions followed by the hackathon.
