Sybase makes inroads in mobile mart

Telecommunications companies worldwide are integrated and adding mobility and intelligence to their systems with Sybase portal technology.

iAnywhere Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase and a leading supplier of mobile, workgroup and portable intelligence solutions, has been leading the global mobile database market for the fifth consecutive year since 1997. It is positioned to be a "one-stop source for m-business."

According to a Gartner Dataquest report, iAnywhere expects to further enlarge its market share in the region, riding on its continued market share expansion in 2001 from 61 percent to 68 percent.

"iAnywhere is a very significant product. It can leave the smallest database footprint (around four kilobytes). Thus, it can be used in a cellular phone," said Sybase Phils. sales director Randall Lozano.

With the growing number of cellular phone users in the country, Delfin Hallare Jr., president and general manager of Sybase Phils., said they are beginning to penetrate the mobile and wireless industry.

"We strongly believe our iAnywhere solution will help us get our fair share of the market," Hallare said. "Sybase offers data management and synchronization technologies that enable organizations to extend their businesses to remote customers, partners and suppliers."

"These organizations’ employees are themselves using devices that range from desktops and laptops to handheld devices and intelligent appliances," he said.

The technology enables business data to be "mobile and closer to the customer," he added.

Sybase’s Telecommunications and Media Group provides enterprise software to many of the world’s leading wireline and wireless communication companies, Internet service providers, film production studios and television networks. Over 150 of the top telecommunications and media companies worldwide rely on Sybase.

Working with both strategic partners and Sybase subsidiaries and divisions, the company’s Telecommunications and Media Group has traditionally focused on analytical, customer relations management (CRM), billing, fraud management, media asset management, customer care, network management, provisioning and user profiling to deliver the business solutions companies need for bottom-line efficiency.

Banking on its strength in providing enterprise-class software solutions, Sybase Phils. is bent on becoming the leader in data warehousing solutions.

Last year, Sybase’s biggest market for its data warehousing solutions was the telecommunications sector. Overall, the company posted P120 million worth of business.
