Polaroid Topaz smartwatch

MANILA, Philippines - After establishing its presence in the local smartphone and tablet scene, Polaroid, in partnership with its distributor RedDot Philippines, is set to strengthen its mobile device lineup by introducing the Polaroid Topaz smartwatch.

A new contender in the growing market of wearable devices, the Topaz smartwatch features a 1.54-inch touch screen with a durable, metal-brushed bezel and a stylish, adjustable strap, which has nine holes that allow for easy adjustment and comfortable fit.

With 240 x 240 display resolution and adequate brightness, the Topaz’s display provides users with a convenient way to maneuver and navigate through the smartwatch’s simple and easy-to-understand user interface.

Users just have to swipe, scroll up and down, and tap to access, select, and alter the smartwatch’s settings, in the same way as using a smartphone or a tablet.

As a smartwatch, the Polaroid Topaz primarily serves as a peripheral device for an Android smartphone or an iPhone.

Utilizing wireless Bluetooth connectivity, the Topaz communicates with a smartphone, synchronizing with its phonebook, text messages, and music library. With this capability, users do not have to reveal their smartphones in public places just to perform basic yet important tasks like making and taking phone calls, as well as reading and answering text messages.

In addition, Polaroid’s smartwatch can notify users about incoming e-mails and updates from Facebook and Twitter without the need to check their smartphones from time to time. Hence, the Topaz can help in lessening the incidence of smartphone theft.

Apart from having the capability to handle basic phone functions, the Polaroid Topaz also comes with simple yet useful applications for everyday living. Essentially as a watch, the Topaz can accurately show date and time, and set an alarm. It has a built-in calculator, calendar, music player, sound recorder, and stopwatch.

For those who want to stay fit and healthy, the Topaz integrates a digital pedometer that allows users to set a target and monitor calorie consumption when they are running.

The Topaz is water-resistant, so users do not have to worry about their sweat damaging the device while they are training.

While some wearable devices are criticized for their relatively short stamina, the Polaroid Topaz smartwatch promises to deliver long battery life that can last up to two days. Once its battery life becomes critical or drained, the Topaz is easy to recharge because it uses a standard micro-USB slot. The Topaz can be recharged using a generic charger or connecting it to another device (a desktop PC or a notebook) with the bundled micro-USB cable.

The Polaroid Topaz will be officially released in the market in April and will retail for P5,995 only.
