MANILA, Philippines - Constantly innovating to bring the best running experience to everyone, organizers of the National MILO Marathon will start using the ChampionChip timing system when the national finals of the country’s biggest and most prestigious running event is staged on Oct. 11.
The chips will be made available to runners taking part in the 42K, 21K and 10K race categories.
This was revealed by Nestlé AVP and MILO sports events executive Pat Goc-ong during the recent signing of a memorandum of agreement between National MILO Marathon race director and R.A.C.E. president Rudy Biscocho and FINISHLINE officials led by their president Rio de la Cruz and sales and marketing manager Vincent Mendoza.
FINISHLINE is the exclusive distributor of ChampionChip timing system in the Philippines.
It was also revealed that Reinier Pacific International and takbo.ph volunteers will man the support stations for 42K and 21K runners.
The ChampionChip is a mini transponder housed in a specially designed plastic. It contains a chip in combination with an energizing coil, which are encased in a waterproof glass capsule. This means ChampionChip can be used under all conditions (wet, dry, cold and hot).
ChampionChip technology uses radio frequency identification system (RFID) from Texas Instruments, which utilizes a combination of synchronized multiple antennas, high-tech analog and digital electronics, and dedicated software for live bulk data handling.
The ChampionChip technology was officially introduced at the Berlin Marathon in September 1994.
At present, it is used in big city marathons, Ironman triathlons and thousands of other events around the world, with proven superior performance by delivering fast and accurate results, high level of service by providing net times and splits for each individual runner. Runners enjoy a free flowing finish, which means no more chutes that restrict space at the finish line.
The use of the ChampionChip technology is proof that the National MILO Marathon remains firmly committed to deliver the best running experience to people from all walks of life.
Moreover, it marks another milestone in the event’s illustrious history, as it continues to build champions in sports and in life.

The National MILO Marathon Finals in Manila is being held in partnership with Bayview Park Hotel Manila, the Department of Tourism, Gatorade, and Nestlé Pure Life.
