MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has declared Nov. 25 National Day for Youth in Climate Action in recognition of the youth’s role in raising public awareness about the threats of climate change.
The declaration was based on a proclamation of the National Youth Commission (NYC) and the Climate Change Commission (CCC).
In the proclamation, Aquino tasked the two agencies to determine the theme and identify the projects and programs for the yearly observance of the activities.
He also encouraged other government agencies to collaborate with the NYC in implementing programs and activities pursuant to the proclamation.
Earlier, the NYC and the CCC launched the #nowph (Not on our Watch) campaign, a comprehensive advocacy on climate action which seeks to empower the youth in raising public consciousness on the science of climate change.
It also aims to cushion disasters brought about by climate change through environment-friendly lifestyles and the proper utilization of resources among the youth.
The proclamation is envisioned to boost the #nowph advocacy campaign, NYC chairman Gio Tingson said.
“The issuance of this landmark document is a clear manifestation of the government’s concerted efforts that will provide opportunities to the youth in the promotion and adoption of a climate-smart lifestyle,” Tingson said.
