SLMC-GC holds first robotic surgery masterclass

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City will be hosting the first da Vinci Gynecology Masterclass in the country on June 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Dr. Peter Barton-Smith, a well-known international expert and surgeon from Singapore General Hospital, is the invited speaker.

Barton-Smith is the most experienced robotic gynecologic surgeon in Singapore, and in 2013 he performed more robotic cases than any other surgeon in any specialty in Southeast Asia.

The masterclass will have delegates from the Asia-Pacific region, namely Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. It is offered to robotic gynecologic surgeons in the Philippines, particularly those who are already practicing robotic surgery and those who intend to learn robotic surgery.

The comprehensive course will cover different aspects on robotic treatment for benign gynecologic surgeries. It will focus on endometriosis, myomectomy and hysterectomy.

Delegates will also be exposed to live surgery, video didactic lectures and experience sharing by both the host and the invited speaker.

The course aims to provide tips and tricks for the management of robotic procedures (simple and complex), promote operating room and surgical efficiency, experience sharing in building successful robotic gynecology programs and most importantly, creating a platform for surgeons in the Asia-Pacific region to communicate and learn together.

Overall chair of the Masterclass is Dr. Jennifer Marie Jose, the first da Vinci accredited robotic gynecologic surgeon in the Philippines, with department head for obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Efren Domingo, as honorary chair.
