When served black, Nescafé Classic just has one calorie

MANILA, Philippines - More health-conscious people today are avoiding high-calorie beverages, including coffee preparations that pack in the milk, cream, and sugar — for example, a serving of latte or cappuccino has a whopping 300 to 500 calories.

So how do you enjoy your coffee without taking in extra calories? Well, one way would be to take your coffee black. Coffee drinkers who watch their calorie intake will be glad to know that Nescafé Classic contains only one calorie when served black.

“I’m happy to know that drinking my favorite Nescafé Classic black doesn’t increase my calorie intake,” says 32-year-old Monica Osero, a freelance marketer.

She drinks her black instant coffee in the morning before going to the gym for a workout before proceeding to the office. Monica says her cup of instant coffee in the morning keeps her mentally alert and focused for her workout and her job whenever she starts her day.

Flight attendant John Phillip Ng is also thrilled over the fact that a cup of black Nescafé Classic could be part of his health regimen.

“I read from health magazines that black coffee has less calories compared to other coffee concoctions. This is why I decided to have my instant coffee black — no sugar, no cream, no additional calories,” he says.

Nowadays, John Phillip enjoys his black coffee a few times a day: at breakfast and later in the course of his work. “It has been part of my daily routine and I’m glad that I can drink more coffee without feeling worried about unwanted calories.”

John adds that he not only enjoys the taste and aroma of his instant black coffee but also appreciates how it improves his mental acuity for his work and perks him up during sleepy afternoons.

Radio DJ and announcer Karen Ow-Yong also prefers drinking black instant coffee instead of coffee concoctions that contain extra calories from sugar, cream, and milk.

“Nescafé Classic, along with proper diet and exercise, helps me stay healthy. Since I take it black, it contains only one calorie and I can have it anytime of the day,” says the 29-year-old radio talent.

Another benefit of regular coffee drinking is it helps one load up on antioxidants, which studies have found to help protect the body from degenerative diseases and slow down the signs of aging.
